How To Play Amnesia Custom Stories
Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Amnesia: Rebirth allow player-created mod campaigns to be added to the game, and then accessed from the game's main menu. These custom stories can be created using the many tools released for the HPL Engine.[1] Almost 1 000 of these mods can be found and downloaded for Amnesia: The Dark Descent.[2]
Support for mods and custom stories were added for Amnesia: Rebirth with the 1.2 patch released on November 6 2020.

Penumbra: Necrologue [ ]
Penumbra: Necrologue is a total conversion mod for Amnesia: The Dark Descent, released on October 31, 2014. It is presented as a continuation of Frictional Games' other first-person survival horror game Penumbra series and starts off right where the last game in the series, Penumbra: Requiem ended. It was created by CounterCurrent games and features an all-new story, monsters, objects, and sounds. It also won the Mod DB: Mod of The Year "Editors' Choice" 2014: "Best Singleplayer" award. On October 31, 2015, they also released Penumbra: Twilight of the Archaic, a prequel to Penumbra: Necrologue.

The Great Work [ ]
The Great Work follows Charles Longden, an archaeologist looking for his partner Jane, in the old abandoned castle of Minneburg. What he discovers drags him into a centuries-old war between ancient alchemists and The Shadow. Released in 2013, it contains over 30 maps, brand new puzzles, as well as new monsters and models.

Tenebris Lake [ ]
Another total conversion mod for Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Edward wakes up with amnesia in the large bastion of Tenebris Lake. Featuring fully custom music and props, this custom story was released in 2012 by Boris Game Studios.

Obscurity [ ]
While returning to Crescent Village, the hamlet you grew up in as a child, you discover empty houses, boarded up windows, and a strange feeling in the air. Soon, you discover the secrets hidden in this small town, and you find yourself inside of a waking nightmare, instead of the quiet, obscure, rocky town you remembered it to be. Featuring new monsters, maps, and voice acting, this custom story was released in 2013 by developer ElectricRed.

The Attic [ ]
The Attic follows Derek's Father as he explores the attic of his large countryside manor. Soon he realises that there is something hiding up there, but it seems that he himself is also hiding something. The Attic is a three-chapter custom story that was released August 2011 - August 2012. It was created by developer Everlost.

Frictional Games' Custom Story Competition [ ]
On July 7, 2011, Frictional Games announced that they were holding a custom story competition where people could vote on their favourite Amnesia: The Dark Descent custom story in three categories: Best Custom Story, Most Potential, and Most Unique.[3] The winners of the competition won a shirt with the quote "Oh shit I have a bag of milkyways!", which is from a YouTube video that was very popular at the time.

By Plutomaniac. A re-creation of Unbirth, a game Thomas Grip (co-founder of Frictional Games) was working on between 2001-2004. The game got shelved because of technical issues, but an open alpha was released in 2008.[5] This mod is based on that alpha.
